Ralph Wheeler

Director

Technical Expert

Ralph Wheeler was born in 1964 in Wales, U.K. He emigrated with his family to South Africa in 1976. Since his main hobby was in the then emerging electronics field, it seemed natural that he took up employment with Olivetti as a trainee technician in the electronic workshops in Fordsburg RSA. Two years later, he joined SA Computer Resale Brokers, a dealer in IBM 3270 environment and was tasked to establish an electronic circuit board repair facility for the company. During his time at SACRB, Ralph gained invaluable technical and managerial experience and left the company having achieved the establishment of a fully fledged repair facility, complete with trained engineers.

In 1986, Ralph found the situation in South Africa inconsistent with his life values and emigrated for the second time to Botswana, seeking a more open society. He joined what was then probably one of the first computer companies in Botswana, Apal Computers, as Workshop Manager. It is probably here that his fondness for the Apple branded equipment was born. Apal computers was subsequently sold to Data Processing and became a fully fledged division, headed by Ralph. It was during his time at Data Processing that Ralph met Mukesh Chauhan. Mukesh went on to spend time in the USA, where he teamed up with Phillip Noyce to establish an Apple Distribution company for Sub Saharan Africa. In due course, Ralph and Mukesh teamed up to start the well known company AppleCentre, which grew from strength to strength.

Around the same time, Ralph also headed up the service division of Electroflex, a locally based U.P.S dealer and it was here that he revisited

Stemming from the successes of AppleCentre, other companies joined the group namely P.C Centre and Media Magic. Ralph was a shareholder of two of these companies where he met Fatema Khan, who was the financial controller at the time. They found that they shared similar ideals and business principles and it was therefore natural to form a business alliance which gave rise to the MBO that resulted in what is the present day ITi. ITi is currently the largest 3rd party I.T. desktop services provider in Botswana and is considered by most to be an outstanding commercial success, and it is possible that this is as a result of its founding members solid commercial and social principles.

Mukesh Chauhan

Director

Business Expert

Mukesh Chauhan was born in 1958 in Luanshya, Zambia. He graduated in 1980 from the University of Zambia with a Honours Degree in Bachelor Of Engineering (Electronics and Telecommunications). After graduation, he was recruited by Schlumberger Inc., the largest wire-line operators in the oil industry. In his 3 years stint with Schlumberger, Mukesh worked in Milan (Italy), Pau (France), Bergen (Norway) and did did training at Schlumberger's British Training Centre (BTC) in Livingston (Scotland).
On 9th Jan 1983 (on his birthday), Mukesh arrived in Gaborone on an assignment for a Zambian Computer reseller, Data Processing (Pty) Limited (DPL), who had just opened a Gaborone branch.

DPL offered him a contract as a technician and he worked for them for 5 years in various roles and responsibility from Technical Manager, Marketing and Sales Manager to General Manager. Mukesh left DPL to pursue his own business interest around the middle of 1988. He joined his current business partner Mr. Philip Noyce in a Pan African Computer Services (PACS) that continues to be a distributor for Apple Computers for the region Africa South, East and Central . In 1991, with Ralph Wheeler, Mukesh started AppleCentre a dedicated Apple Reseller. After a couple of years, he opened another computer dealership called PC Centre to offer IBM compatibles for the Botswana market. AppleCentre and PC Centre grew to be two of the most successful and respected computer resellers in the market. In 1995, Mukesh negotiated with Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) to buy Botswana Furniture Manufacturers (BFM) and Mukwa Interiors. In 2000, Mukesh also purchased the assets of another BDC liquidation company Office Furniture Manufacturers (OFM). Today between BFM, OFM, Mukwa and other associated companies, the group employs over 200 people.

In June 1999, the group bought the distribution rights for Gestetner Photocopier and Fax products, and today Media Magic is a very successful dealer with wide range of office automation products.

In August 2000, Mukesh facillitated the creation of an independent service provider company, Information Technology Integrators (ITi) which is a unique company in many ways. It is one of the few examples of a truly Vision 2016 company that was created from a MBO of the service entities of AppleCentre, PC Centre and Media Magic. It is a majority citizen owned company and in less than 3 years, it has grown to be the largest I.T. desktop services provider in Botswana
